About the role

As a Manufacturing Operations Supervisor at NOGJ in Jonesborough, you will organize and direct manufacturing operations related to HPDU processes. This position will provide technical and production activities and staff oversight, coordinate chemical processes, and ensure the conversion of feed material to manufacture high purity metal products that conform to contractual and company requirements. You will analyze, evaluate, and solve technical problems encountered in manufacturing methods, facilities, processes, material, and tooling while maintaining a safe work environment.

This position may require the ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedules to support facility start-up, production, and/or training requirements, including overtime, weekends, and shifts of 10 to 12 hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate plans and safe processes to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and resources.
  • Manage and oversee chemical and material conversion processes related to high purity metal production.
  • Provide management and oversight for continuous improvement efforts related to manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee the design, fabrication, and modification of systems and equipment required to support manufacturing, quality, and test operations.
  • Implement and maintain a cost-effective key performance indicator program.
  • Develop and implement short and long-range training, proficiency, and qualification plans for manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure activities are accomplished safely and in accordance with company policies, sound business practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Provide effective direction and leadership to subordinates guided by established policies and precedents.
  • Plan, prioritize, and delegate work assignments.
  • Read and interpret system drawings, operational documents, and product specifications.
  • Provide technical and administrative guidance for activities within defined scope of responsibilities.
  • Create and present data and information to management effectively.
  • Utilize various computer systems to produce schedules, data, and reports.
  • Interpret and execute applicable policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and utilize personnel, material, and facilities to ensure goals are met.
  • Establish and maintain records and reports monitoring internal operating controls.
  • Review designs for quality and design reliability.
  • Inspect and coordinate maintenance of equipment.
  • Select, appraise, motivate, train, and develop subordinates.
  • Prepare and administer organizational budgets.
  • Provide training in manufacturing techniques, policies, procedures, and safety/environmental protocols.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with all levels of management and individual contributors across multiple organizations.
  • Immediately escalate potential safety hazards, incidents, issues affecting production schedules, non-conformities, and areas of concern to direct management.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Provide technical and administrative supervision to other operational units as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible technical experience in a directly related industry.
  • Prior supervisory or managerial experience as a first-line supervisor or lead person in an industrial, manufacturing, or chemical processing environment is a plus.
  • NOGJ internal candidates must currently be in a pay grade 06 or 07 classification or higher and have at least five (5) years of experience at a BWXT facility or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, rules, and regulations in manufacturing, techniques, and inspection requirements.
  • Understanding of fluid system operations, including flow, pressure, temperature, valves, pumps, and chemical reactor processes.
  • Use of material safety data sheets to understand controls required for hazardous materials.
  • Familiarity with radiological and chemical handling requirements.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and methods, Lean, Six Sigma, analytical equipment, and advanced manufacturing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of production planning, scheduling of resources, manpower, materials, and machines.
  • Understanding of principles and practices of personnel management, supervision, leadership, organizational analysis, motivation, team building, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with budgeting procedures and techniques.
  • Proficiency with applicable computer equipment, software, performance measurement systems, and statistical concepts.
  • May be required to wear a respirator and maintain a clean-shaven protocol for respirator fit testing.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) and/or Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) is expected to be between $70,000 and $103,000 per year. The base salary offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. The total compensation package may also include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits.

Schedule

This position may require the ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedules to support facility start-up, production, and/or training requirements. It may also require overtime, weekends, and shifts of 10 to 12 hours per day.
