Manufacturing Maintenance Technician (3rd Shift)

About the role

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Technician Apprentice is trained in the full range of maintenance and repair duties on all pieces of production machinery. This role requires completion of a 14-month training program, culminating in a comprehensive equipment assessment. Candidates are permitted a maximum of two attempts to pass this assessment. Progression is evaluated based on skill acquisition, safety adherence, troubleshooting capability, and ability to independently perform assigned maintenance tasks. Successful completion leads to promotion to Maintenance Technician with increased responsibility and pay.

Responsibilities

• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools
• Understand electrical, air pressure, air flow, and equipment repair and maintenance processes
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on all production equipment to ensure high performance and prevent deterioration
• Inspect drives, motors, electrical systems, air pressures, vacuum lines, drive belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance activities
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools (e.g., hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches) to precision measuring instruments and electrical/electronic testing devices
• Assemble, install, and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing systems, machinery, and equipment
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine corrective actions using blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs
• Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions
• Record and document maintenance and repair work with the Operational Lead
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
• Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts using hoists, hand tools, and power tools
• Plan and lay out repair work using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams
• Requisition parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs, suppliers, or storerooms
• Coordinate and work with Machine Operators to observe machine operation, detect defects, and adjust machines as necessary
• Work in a safe manner, following all safety rules and procedures
• Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require
• Lay out materials efficiently in tight working spaces
• Select suitable welding methods for specific job requirements
• Demonstrate hand-to-eye coordination and work accurately under time constraints
• Basic understanding of PLC or HMI programming
• Assure Food Safety and report violations
• Program and install motor controls and replace a variety of motors/servos
• Maintain good housekeeping and inventory controls to ensure proper organization of workspaces and storeroom
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• 3–7 years of preventative maintenance/mechanical experience
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
• Production line or processing equipment experience
• Willing to work 3rd shift
• Strong understanding of mechanical function
• Ability to inspect equipment, identify root causes of malfunctions, and troubleshoot defects
• Proficient with all hand and power tools
• Understanding of hydraulics, motors, and pumps
• Certified forklift driver
• Experienced with scissor lifts
• Proficiently read drawings, system layouts, schematics, and technical manuals
• Basic understanding of electrical systems and pneumatics
• Ability to work at heights up to 30ft
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing ladders, working in narrow spaces, and lifting heavy equipment
• Must be able to obtain material handling equipment certifications and First Aid certification
• Spanish-English bilingual skills preferred but not required

Preferred experience includes welding, gas trains, water trains, Maxon Burner, and HMI.

Skills

• At least 3–5 years of hands-on mechanical, maintenance, technical trade, manufacturing, automotive, diesel, HVAC, or related experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
