The manufacturing automation development engineering team at Tesla is seeking a highly motivated engineering technician to build, troubleshoot, and improve custom automation projects at our Houston, Texas facilities.

About the role

  • Works closely with engineering teams to reduce costs, increase capacity, and deliver high-quality manufacturing equipment for Tesla's cutting-edge products.
  • Builds and maintains state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborates with other technician teams to ensure development spaces are organized, stocked, and ready for work.
  • Leads and supports cross-functional engineer teams, escalating issues and suggesting solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic manufacturing equipment.
  • Assembles prototype equipment for engineering research and development.
  • Rigs, locates, aligns, and levels equipment according to engineering layouts.
  • Executes technician tasks independently after initial instruction, sometimes at remote locations.
  • Collaborates with other technician teams, providing instructions and verifying craftsmanship.
  • Directs interactions with cross-functional engineer teams, escalating issues and suggesting solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience assembling equipment from mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in reading electrical schematics and wiring electrical control panels.
  • Experience installing, wiring, and plumbing common manufacturing devices.
  • Working knowledge of DC/AC electrical systems.
  • Hands-on machining experience including mills, lathes, saws, grinders, etc.
  • Experience rigging, driving forklifts, driving scissor lifts, and using pallet jacks.
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing automation or related field.
  • Valid driver's license required.
