About the role

This position is based in Knightdale, NC, within the Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit. The EA Business Unit delivers energy distribution systems and solutions, specializing in medium-voltage power distribution equipment, including primary and secondary switchgear, controllers, contactors, circuit breakers, as well as OEM and replacement/retrofit solutions and services. The facility also assembles low-voltage motor control centers and switchboards, with in-house fabrication capabilities such as metal punching, bending, and automated wire-harness manufacturing.

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician is responsible for manufacturing capability, continuity, and continuous improvement at the station and line levels. This includes improvements to production methods, workcenter design, fixture design, ergonomics, tooling management, connection of digital and automation devices (IT/OT), and creation of work instructions, SOPs, and other standard production process documentation.

Responsibilities

• Complete manufacturing improvement projects, tasks, and installations of new devices or equipment for setting up new production lines or optimizing existing ones for efficiency.
• Ensure baseline capability and reliability of machines and workstations by analyzing and optimizing station design, ergonomics, material handling, tooling management, data acquisition, signaling systems, visual controls/6S, and standard documentation.
• Communicate and cooperate with the manufacturing engineering team, workforce, quality control, safety management, production management, and supply chain management to devise and implement solutions that eliminate waste and increase efficiency and reliability.
• Provide fast response to production teams during urgent issues, unplanned downtime, or flow-blocking events.
• Assist Industrial and Manufacturing Engineers in implementing new line layouts, equipment installations, and other strategic measures to ensure line readiness for production ramp-up targets.
• Coordinate with external vendors to develop, estimate, quote, design, and produce solutions for manufacturing productivity, iterating as needed until the solution stabilizes.
• Ensure newly-deployed improvements are sustained and standardized by devising controlling mechanisms, documentation, checks, signals, confirmations, or other elements integrated into the new process.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Ability to measure, specify, sketch, and install mechanical assembly fixtures such as workholding devices, workstation features, and material handling devices.
• 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Associate’s degree or higher in a technical or engineering field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling (Solidworks or similar).
• Knowledge of mechanical principles related to assembly operations (hardware, fasteners, tools, torque).
• Conversational awareness of electronic devices for manufacturing control such as PLCs, Andon systems, switches, and sensors.
• Awareness of Lean manufacturing principles (8 Wastes, Value-Add, 5S, Root Cause Analysis) and industrial shop safety and ergonomics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with PLC programming.
• Experience with 3D printing.
• Experience with electrical assembly, wiring, or electronics installation.
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering field.
• Experience with data analysis.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP.

Pay
