Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is accountable for ensuring maximum cost effectiveness and the reliability of manufacturing process and workflow. They determine best practice methods and sequences of manufacturing operations and ensure products and processes meet customer quality requirements.
Essential Functions
- Evaluates and develops innovative solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing production problems through identification and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes including conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials, conferring with suppliers.
- Prepares written and graphical work instructions to communicate manufacturing requirements and the required tooling to production personnel.
- Evaluates capital equipment investments and prepare cost justifications.
- Design and prepare concept drawings and implement new equipment, prototypes or modifications to existing equipment.
- Manage the overall implementations of capital equipment projects.
- Investigates and prepares manufacturing methods for new products and prototypes in a timely manner.
- Prepare and carry out tool redesign and alterations, change in material specification, dimensions, methods, routing, etc.
- Standardize manufacturing methods.
- Evaluate, recommend and implement changes to current manufacturing processes by analyzing production, labor standards, and material cost, reviewing production schedules, and estimating future requirements.
- Implement new methods for higher productivity.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Assure process control and reliability for broad areas of manufacturing that may include supplier base as appropriate.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and establishing and implementing “design for manufacture and assembly” plans.
- Refine and enhance products and process by applying continuous improvements and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to critical or high-impact areas of production.
- May lead special projects for a variety of products and processes.
- Frequent formal and informal customer interface to present program status, including analysis of product failure, probable cause, and corrective action plans.
- Assure product and process quality by design testing methods, testing finished product and process capabilities, and establishing standards to confirm and validate manufacturing process requirements.
- Determines root cause of failures using statistical methods (e.g. design of experiment, statistical process control) that may result in changes in design, tolerances, or processing methods.
- Directs and/or performs in the following areas: Supplier management, supplier audits, product disposition, corrective action, and internal audits.
- Manages internal corrective and preventive action through returns from customers.
- Writes quality procedures to insure customer requirements are maintained.
- Reviews all contracts for compliance to customer quality requirement. Update Parker procedures as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree required, preferably in Engineering
- 7-10 years of increasing responsibility in leadership roles, requiring advanced project planning and team organizational skills
- Demonstrated teamwork and team building skills in producing results and meeting organizational objectives
- Capable of assessing and developing individual and team skills and capabilities
- Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals
- Serve as a role model by promoting new ideas and positive change
- Thorough understanding of production technology, and/or specialty support areas including broad knowledge of business and regulatory environments and trends
