About the role
This entry-level role focuses on designing tooling and workholding solutions that support high-precision CNC machining operations. The position works closely with engineers, machinists, and shop-floor personnel to develop, test, and refine fixtures that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Aid in designing CNC workholding fixtures for milling, turning, and secondary operations to improve stability, repeatability, and production throughput.
- Create and maintain detailed 2D/3D CAD models and drawings for fixtures, soft jaws, nests, clamps, and related tooling components.
- Collaborate with engineering staff, tool room machinists, and CNC operators to evaluate fixture concepts, gather feedback, and support fabrication/debug efforts.
- Participate in fixture prove-outs on the shop floor; document performance and implement revisions as needed.
- Contribute to process documentation, including setup sheets, work instructions, tooling lists, and basic process flows.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing cycle time, minimizing scrap, and improving safety/ergonomics.
- Assist in root cause investigations for fixture- or process-related quality issues and help implement corrective actions.
- Promote standardization of tooling/fixture components and support basic tooling inventory practices.
- Update documentation as engineering changes affect fixtures, gaging, or process steps.
- Work with Quality and Inspection teams to ensure fixture designs meet print requirements and support effective measurement strategies.
- Follow all safety guidelines and assist in implementing EHS requirements related to machine guarding, clamping forces, and safe setup practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (0-2 years of experience).
- Foundational understanding of machining principles, workholding concepts, and how fixturing impacts quality.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and basic familiarity with GD&T.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred, equivalents acceptable).
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and willingness to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Base salary target $70,000 - $95,000
