About the role
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain manufacturing engineering processes, work instructions, and SOPs for CPV and ground system component activities (proof, disassembly, refurbishment, cleaning, reassembly, leak testing, functional checkout) across our Huntsville and West Texas facilities.
- Own creation, release, and configuration management of work orders driving test stand component refurbishment (valves, filters, regulators, gauges, etc.), ground support equipment, and test article cleaning flows.
- Shape and improve cleaning, passivation, verification, and refurbishment processes to meet cleanliness specs, fluid system requirements, and industry standards.
- Source, specify, and procure tooling, fixturing, and equipment for CPV and component lab operations, including new test capability builds in West Texas.
- Disposition non-conformances and, when escapes occur, drive recovery, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Champion continuous improvement (kaizen, process flow mapping, standard work) across CPV and component lab environments, partnering with technicians to capture and scale effective practices.
- Collaborate with design, quality, materials, and test engineering teams to deliver manufacturability, cleanability, and refurbish-ability of hardware moving through these facilities.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians, shape department-level standards, and strengthen ERP/MRP/CMMS workflows for sharper work order management, configuration control, and traceability.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of manufacturing or test engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with hardware fabrication or handling activities such as cleaning, passivation, assembly, integration, instrumentation, non-destructive testing, leak testing, or fluid component refurbishment.
- Experience developing work instructions, SOPs, and manufacturing/process documentation.
- Experience with configuration management, requirements management, and change processes.
- Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven track record to work effectively with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
- Direct experience with fluid component and system cleaning, surface treatment, and validation procedures.
- Experience with visualizing process flows and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with AI tools and their application in a manufacturing or processing environment.
- Strong digital literacy (MS Office, Jira, Confluence).
- Must be eligible to gain access to Redstone Arsenal.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
