Manufacturing Engineer - Level 2

This position is 100% onsite in Linthicum, MD and cannot accommodate telecommute work. Travel is required, up to 10% of the time. No relocation assistance or security clearance is required to start.

About the Role

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer – Level 2 or Level 3 to join our team. This individual will work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, IPT Lead, Quality Engineer, Test Engineering, and Operations to ensure producibility meets program targets, including yield and continuous improvement opportunities. The role supports the Ultima program at the Focal Plane Lab and involves working with microelectronics manufacturing processes. This position follows a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities

• Develop and revise process documentation and work instructions.
• Develop, maintain, or improve existing manufacturing processes with a focus on production capabilities and affordability.
• Establish and monitor Statistical Process Control (SPC) for manufacturing processes.
• Lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and troubleshooting efforts.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Test, Production, and Program Management to ensure manufacturing documentation supports efficient execution, troubleshooting, and schedule recovery.
• Provide ROI justification for process improvements.
• Specify, identify, and procure new manufacturing equipment for production readiness and prepare equipment for production.
• Monitor process yields and cost, recommending and implementing quality improvements to drive improved metrics.
• Solve manufacturing problems related to materials, designs, equipment, tooling, training, and instructions to support production.
• Assist with training new personnel and participate in the design of operational training materials.
• Support factory maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repair of process equipment.
• Ensure the team meets the requirements of JEDEC Standards, internal requirements, and other relevant IPC/MIL-STDs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for Level 2

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience.
• Experience with manufacturing processes.
• Strong desire to work with control processes.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well at all levels in the organization.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
• Experience with manufacturing processes.
• Strong desire to work with control processes.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well at all levels in the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
• Demonstrated engineering leadership and teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and involvement in professional/community/extracurricular activities.
• Experience working in microelectronics.
• Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
• Experience in Microelectronic Manufacturing or Wire Bond Fabrication.
• Experience in troubleshooting and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).

Pay

Primary salary range for this role is $79,600.00 - $119,400.00. The final offer considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
