About the role

The co-op or intern supports operations by working with the Engineering team to learn through:

  • Direction from department leadership and engineers to complete tasks for multiple projects.
  • Aiding in the justification, design, building, testing, installation, and operation of automated manufacturing systems.
  • Designing and detailing items within a project using 2-D CAD and/or 3-D CAD software.
  • Writing and editing robotic or PLC programs necessary to produce parts for the project or customer.
  • Identifying and eliminating safety and quality risks and root causes.
  • Utilizing time studies or pre-determined timing methods such as MTM or MOST to validate setup and run times.
  • Aiding in lean manufacturing initiatives and product flow improvements.
  • Evaluating historical data on run rates to determine accuracy.
  • Aiding in the creation and evaluation of cost reductions.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics/Automation, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering program at a two or four year college or university, progressing toward a degree.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and cause prevention (error proofing) skills.
  • Ability to work independently and show strong initiative and ownership of ideas and projects.
  • Strong computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • CAD (Solid Works) experience is beneficial.
  • Prior manufacturing, especially fabrication and welding, experience is beneficial.

There is also moderate exposure to ideo Data Terminals (VDTs) and moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds).
