About the role

Join Leonardo DRS Land Electronics in Huntsville, Alabama as a Manufacturing Engineer. In this role, you will provide direct engineering support to manufacturing operations, performing design, fabrication, modification and/or evaluation of manufacturing operations.

Essential Functions

  • Involved in the development of manufacturing process plans, test requirements, and manufacturing flow, and capacity plans.
  • Review detail designs for manufacturability and producibility.
  • Generate and/or update Manufacturing routes and work instructions for production.
  • Identify and procure tools, materials, and fixtures in support of production.
  • Provide Capital Asset reviews and inputs for future requirements/improvements.
  • Provide written reports and support IPT meetings as needed.
  • Support production and prototype proposal efforts and provide OPS team estimates.
  • Manage maintenance and calibration schedules for production equipment (and assist with getting equipment repaired as needed / most efficient way possible).
  • Support 6S activities and Continuous Process Improvement initiatives.
  • Determine Root Cause and Corrective Actions for production/assembly issues.
  • Read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and/or support documentation and provide inputs for improvements.
  • Work closely with assemblers, supervisors, quality, and engineering, and provide training if/as needed.
  • Generation of assembly deviations of product assembly, red lined documentation, and engineering change requests (CRs/ECOs) and also responsible for review and approval of SAIRs (supplier requests) as OPS representative.
  • Design and build harness boards and create the prototype for manufacturing LRU harnesses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field with 2-5 years applicable engineering experience or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
  • Specialties may include manufacturing, production or industrial.
  • Experience with MES and CostPoint systems.
  • Proficiency in the assembly of mechanical builds utilizing drawings, routes and work instructions.
