Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) at A-dec designs, implements, sustains, and improves manufacturing processes and systems, focusing on quality, safety, delivery, and cost optimization. They collaborate cross-functionally to resolve production issues and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides technical support to resolve production issues (quality escalations, machine down, part shortage, etc.)
- Guides ME Technicians focused on first response of production support issues
- Performs all necessary data collection and work analysis to establish and update part fabrication and/or product assembly Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) routes (setup and run times, operation sequence, etc.)
- Supports ERP and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system accuracy and effectiveness for managing manufacturing process and engineering design change
- Contributes to the development of standards and related documentation
- Creates and maintains manufacturing work instructions to ensure appropriate access, review/approval, training, and change management
- Contributes to continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to optimize processes, reduce waste, and improve product quality
- Utilizes value stream mapping, kaizen, lean strategies and six sigma statistical methods to reduce waste and optimize systems
- Provides written and verbal project updates with appropriate frequency and detail
- Collaborates cross-functionally to understand part/product/process variability utilizing structured problem-solving techniques and statistical methods
- Uses data analytics to inform decision-making
- Collaborates with production leadership to develop, monitor and improve a balanced scorecard that includes metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for quality, inventory, delivery, and safety
- Participates in the evaluation of internal and external quality data to drive product/process improvements and execute assigned Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives
- Collaborates with appropriate subject matter experts to design and implement processes that meet all applicable safety and regulatory requirements
- Completes assigned tasks in support of new product introduction (NPI)
- Tasks may include design reviews, tool/fixture planning, work cell design and validation, and inspection methodology
- Makes timely recommendations to inform capital and expense budgets
- Deploys new equipment and related processes ensuring safety, training, preventive maintenance, documentation, and process controls are validated
- Develops competence in varied manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly, welding, and special processes
- Improves machine center part families, programs, tooling, and setup standards
- Utilizes Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems to efficiently perform necessary design work for tools/fixtures or process area layouts, design review, and document creation
- Supports appropriate quality control methods for inspection, testing, and process monitoring
Qualifications
- Effective cross-functional communication (oral, written, and illustrative) in both individual and team settings
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively while navigating changes in priorities and assigned tasks
- Able to work independently with moderate supervision and mentorship
- Able to develop and communicate clear recommendations with justification to help educate and drive change
- Knowledge of corporate quality management systems (QMS) and manufacturing quality and process control methodologies
- Root cause analysis (RCA) skills and ability to manage corrective and preventive actions
- Proven problem-solving analytical skills required
- Leverage lean six sigma methodology, preferred
- Able to develop and execute a project plan
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering (or relevant engineering discipline), or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated moderate to advanced computer skills including 2D/3D CAD systems such as AutoCAD/Inventor
- Solid understanding and experience with ERP/MRP and similar manufacturing systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis
- Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively
- Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift
- Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
