About the role

A Manufacturing Engineer focused on mechanical and controls systems, responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing procedures and equipment in the manufacturing environment. This includes stamping and punch presses, lasers, conveyance systems, and automation equipment. The role provides technical support to production, introduces processes for new products, and executes capital projects while collaborating with fabrication, glass coating, assembly operations, and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Determine best methods for manufacturing products with maximum efficiency.
  • Create and edit PLC, PMC, and TP programs; support related troubleshooting.
  • Design and modify electrical schematics for special machine modifications.
  • Design, build, create drawings for, and assemble automation solutions and equipment.
  • Support production and assembly with building, wiring, and testing of custom machines and equipment.
  • Develop and test optional tooling for work holding, fixturing, and material presentation.
  • Assist with basic, onsite, and remote support to production technicians.
  • Execute, control, and oversee modifications to control systems.
  • Prepare diagrams and control panel layouts.
  • Provide support for maintenance technicians to ensure functionality of mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Design production layouts, select and optimize equipment, and develop new manufacturing processes for cost competitiveness and quality.
  • Analyze and improve current manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and reduce production costs.
  • Implement safety and quality control measures.
  • Design, develop, and test mechanical components, machines, and equipment.
  • Specify electrical components for machines, equipment, and control systems.
  • Create and test methods and specifications for production of mechanical devices.
  • Provide training and support to plant personnel on new equipment and processes.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • 10+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience designing equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Strong mechanical understanding for troubleshooting and designing manufacturing equipment.
  • Extensive experience with 3D CAD design.
  • Experience with CNC, punch presses, fiber lasers, robots, PLC, and welding.
  • Equipment programming including lasers, robots, sensors, and PLCs.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience with facility layout, process design, PFMEA, and DOE.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, from shop floor to executive leadership.
  • Effective problem solver with ability to utilize analytical techniques for conceptual issues.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions for a technological competitive edge.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Skills

  • Experience designing tooling, fixturing, and specifying equipment for manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with DFA, FMEA, DOE, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma tools.
  • Project management under compressed time constraints.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Experience and understanding of MRP systems (a plus).
