Manufacturing Engineer

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will develop assembly processes based on customer requirements, quality systems, financial investment, and labor plans. You will manage the implementation of new processes, equipment selection, and timing estimates while resolving issues related to quality plans, product design, manufacturability, and build process steps. This role involves adopting new technologies, consulting on automation and robotics, and managing activities using the Process Development System.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed manufacturing plans for new programs requiring new equipment or retooling of existing equipment.
- Prepare all sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for major outside tooling and equipment purchases (e.g., continuity testers, alignment equipment, balancers, uniformity equipment).
- Gather relevant product information, production rates, and assembly requirements from customer contacts.
- Assist the launch team with training and providing reference/support resources for equipment operators.
- Maintain process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
- Monitor and support plant equipment installation and launch.
- Work with the PC&L team to optimize material flow to the production line.
- Understand Android operations (sequencing/subassembly, shipping, and receiving).
- Be responsible for equipment certification, run-off, and providing feedback or escalating issues to leadership.
- Ensure proper Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Act as a liaison with plant team members to drive lessons learned, best practices, and plant goals into new production processes.
- Coordinate program change requests.
- Provide Manufacturing Engineering guidance to improve throughput, reduce scrap/rework, lower costs, and enhance quality and reliability.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineers to drive quality (PFMEA, Reverse PFMEA, Control Plan, Error-proofing plan) into assembly processes and equipment design.
- Promote health and safety in all phases of engineering and launch.
- Maintain equipment records by filing documents and updating the equipment database.
- Protect organizational value by maintaining confidentiality and cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
- Work effectively in a team environment with a positive attitude.
- Interact, lead, and develop people while continuously improving all areas of the business.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in assembly and/or manufacturing.
- 2+ years of experience with the APQP system.
- Supervisory experience in the manufacturing field is preferred.
- Minimal travel required.
Skills
- General understanding of manufacturing processes, Android operations (sequencing, sub-assembly, shipping and receiving, and tooling).
- Strong knowledge of tooling, equipment, automation, engineering specifications, and cost reduction in automotive assembly applications.
- High level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills for unusual and difficult problems.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to grasp technical concepts quickly.
- Proficient with GD&T, process diagrams, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with all team members (manufacturing, engineering, executive leadership, etc.).
- Working knowledge of IATF quality systems.
- High-level computer skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
