VAL-CO, a leader in commercial poultry, egg, and swine production equipment, specializing in world-famous poultry watering and feeding systems, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for our Coldwater, Ohio facility.

About the role

The Manufacturing Engineer evaluates and recommends manufacturing processes and equipment to apply to new and existing products, ensuring safe and efficient processes while staying current with the latest manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Determine process, tooling, and equipment requirements for manufactured products to ensure efficient fabrication and assembly based on production volume.
  • Determine the sequence of operations and assist with "make, buy, or subcontract" decisions for production steps.
  • Specify manufacturing requirements for complete lines of machines, equipment, and tooling; recommend the purchase of new or specialized equipment to meet requirements.
  • Establish manufacturing processes to ensure quality parts using any technology utilized.
  • Evaluate new and existing products and recommend improvements to reduce cost or simplify manufacturing, including design or material changes to reduce tooling cost, machine time, or material processing time.
  • Examine new products for manufacturing purposes and develop cost estimates for efficient manufacture.
  • Complete CER (Capital Equipment Request) forms for analysis, review, and approval.
  • Consult with tooling designers and production supervisors on manufacturing tooling and processing equipment to specify operational goals.
  • Design manufacturing or process equipment and create layouts for drafters and designers in conjunction with the tooling department.
  • Oversee placement of tooling on equipment and ensure necessary corrections and adjustments are made prior to release to production.
  • Stay abreast of changes in manufacturing technologies and apply knowledge to reduce cost and increase operating efficiency.
  • Evaluate requests for changes in processes, compiling data to justify or reject requested changes.
  • Investigate manufacturing problems to determine the cause of defects or failures; recommend design, process, or equipment changes to resolve issues.
  • Attend engineering project meetings to maintain familiarity with development work and serve as the Engineering liaison for the assigned facility.
  • Contact vendors to obtain technical information and assistance as required.
  • Assist in establishing and revising work standards for new and existing manufacturing operations, including breakdowns of machine time vs. manual time and variable vs. constant labor.
  • Conduct time studies to establish standard times, considering operators' skill, effort, consistency, and allowances for material supply, fatigue, and delays.
  • Perform all other reasonable duties assigned by their supervisor.
