About the Role

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Engineering Manager or senior engineer, perform a variety of functions in the development and/or improvement of production methods, processes, machines, automation/interface, equipment, and tooling designs used in the manufacture of wire and cable products. Investigate and recommend areas for cost reduction, perform computations, collect engineering data, perform feasibility studies, prepare reports, and handle other specific tasks as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with major engineering projects, independently handle less complex portions of projects, and complete tasks as assigned.
  • Perform engineering studies and investigations, machine/equipment/tool design, process and assembly development, database design and development, equipment acquisition, and plant layout.
  • Work collectively with Quality, Production, Maintenance, and others to improve manufacturing methods and reduce costs.
  • Make recommendations regarding product design from the standpoint of manufacturing engineering.
  • Participate in the implementation of new methods, equipment, machines, and tooling.
  • Assist supervisors and operators during production and with conducting trial runs as necessary.
  • Maintain product and process specifications, including database and report modifications.
  • Work with vendors to investigate improved methods and equipment.
  • Develop advanced methods of production and data collection.
  • Simplify or eliminate manual operations, utilizing and developing automation approaches when feasible.
  • Investigate production difficulties and devise solutions to problems.
  • Recommend improvements in preventive maintenance, safety, and housekeeping.
  • Use initiative, ingenuity, and sound engineering techniques while performing technical investigations.
  • Seek and accept functional guidance on matters within others' areas of competence.
  • Evaluate, promote, recommend, and work toward a safe and accident-free environment through all projects.
  • Ensure operating procedures for all new and existing equipment are documented for use by others.
  • Exercise responsibility for professional development through continuing study, attending technical society meetings, and similar means.
  • Keep informed on developments in methods, machines, equipment, tooling, and materials through technical literature, trade shows, and vendor visits.
  • Continuously seek out, evaluate, and present areas for improvement to quality, cost, performance, and environmental impact.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • 4-year Engineering or Technical Degree.

Skills

  • Training in product/process development.
  • Experience with limited project leadership (small capital projects).
  • Knowledge of machine, equipment, and tool design.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and equipment, including materials handling.
  • Knowledge of specific aspects of product design, quality control, and costs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
