About the Role
The Manufacturing Engineer position can occur in Process, Production, or Technology. Responsibilities vary by focus area:
- Manufacturing Engineer - Process: Provides innovative and cost-effective processes and solutions required to manufacture products. Designs and develops new and improved manufacturing techniques, processes, and procedures using LEAN. Develops standards, implementation plans, training plans for shop floor personnel, and production metrics. Collaborates with Engineering and Manufacturing Technology to ensure processes are created for new products and return-on-experience is captured for existing processes.
- Manufacturing Engineer - Production: Leads the implementation of manufacturing processes and techniques, including LEAN and Six Sigma tools. Owns respective manufacturing processes and standards, enforces implementation through training and metrics, and solves complex manufacturing problems. Actively troubleshoots quality and production yield issues.
- Manufacturing Engineer - Technology: Identifies, investigates, and/or creates next-generation, innovative, and cost-effective technology solutions for manufacturing existing and new products. Develops a manufacturing technology roadmap and takes processes from concept to implementation.
Responsibilities
Lean Six Sigma (All Roles)
- Implements key elements of Lean, such as standardized work instructions, line balancing, layout and work sequence optimization, training development matrix, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen/5S workouts, pull processes, TPM (Total Preventive Maintenance), cell design, and quick changeover/batch-size optimization.
Processes
- Implements process improvements to achieve manufacturing excellence in areas such as process yield (e.g., First Pass Yield, Rolled Throughput Yield), cycle time reduction, and productivity.
- Provides shop floor feedback on product design and manufacturability issues to Engineering and DFMs (e.g., through Engineering Change Requests - ECRs).
- Reviews and signs off on Engineering Change Orders impacting Inventory, including product lifecycle issues and obsolescence.
- Creates, implements, and monitors key performance indicators and metrics on manufacturing process capability and product quality.
- Monitors and reduces process costs.
- Evaluates and benchmarks best-in-class manufacturing techniques for Schlumberger and OEM products (Technology role).
- Establishes pilot testing and scale-up plans for manufacturing technology implementation (Technology role).
- Works with Manufacturing and Engineering teams and other stakeholders during prove-out testing of processes (Technology role).
- Supports the Manufacturing Engineer (DFM) on technology issues/constraints for NPD and RR projects (Technology role).
- Coordinates with Manufacturing teams and other resources across the company to share and leverage best practices (Technology role).
Quality
- Assists with investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation for manufacturing quality issues.
- Ensures manufacturing technology solutions achieve required quality levels, reliability, and consistency (Technology role).
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of higher degree + 0-2 years of experience.
