Responsibilities
- Create and document processes and procedures for assembling the company’s product.
- Develop and track capital investment budgets for assigned projects.
- Manage and communicate the capital equipment timing plan and address open issues with the program team.
- Develop RFQs and Equipment Specifications for Capital and Tooling Requirements, including contract services.
- Interface with machining, automation, and capital equipment vendors.
- Develop and approve production processes, including work cell layout, ergonomic workstation design, and line balancing.
- Develop Prototype and Production Process Documentation through SOP +90 days, including Process Flow, Cycle Time Analysis, PFMEA, and Work Instructions.
- Program torque control systems and develop error & mistake proofing devices.
- Select and implement material presentation and handling devices.
- Transfer all equipment and process documentation to the Production Plant prior to SOP.
- Review module assembly drawings and CAD models for manufacturability.
- Coordinate initial plant floor layout and PFEP, including material flow and storage.
- Support Engineering Cost Estimator in calculating product cost.
- Provide guidance in equipment and capital selection to the Purchasing Department.
- Lead design and development of assembly systems, production tooling, and packaging.
- Support engineering-related communication internally and with the Customer, including technical presentations, design reviews, capacity analysis, and feasibility studies.
- Work with the program team (internally and with the Customer) to develop and launch products into production.
- Support program meetings (both internally and with the Customer) as required.
- Drive lean concepts (5S, Kanban, Visual Factory, TPM, etc.) throughout the organization.
- Implement process improvements to enhance overall efficiencies, including automation.
- Benchmark processes and equipment throughout the industry and incorporate findings into Piston Standards.
- Solve problems and resolve issues at all sites as directed.
- Motivate the team during crisis management.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of assembly requirements for all Automotive Component Systems; Body, Trim, Chassis, Powertrain, Interior.
- At least 7 years of experience (ideally 10 years).
- Supports cross-functional implementation of advanced robotic technologies.
- Strong working knowledge of Manual and Automated Assembly Systems and Technologies, including mechanical and control systems.
- Strong knowledge in JIT, SPD, ILVS, and Batch manufacturing systems.
- Ability to analyze current business labor efficiencies, capital investments, and other historical data to calculate product cost.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, AutoCAD LT, and other CAD viewers.
- Self-motivated, works independently, and motivates others.
