About the Role

Instron is seeking a driven and innovative Manufacturing Engineer to support our Binghamton, NY facility, home to advanced CNC machining, product assembly, and system integration operations. In this role, you will play a key part in both new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing production support, helping deliver high-quality precision instruments and sophisticated testing systems. You will collaborate across engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams to improve processes, solve complex problems, and drive operational excellence. This position is onsite only at our Binghamton, NY facility.

Responsibilities

  • Function as the primary manufacturing liaison between Engineering and Production, supporting NPI and sustaining engineering efforts
  • Collaborate on product development by providing manufacturability input, part setup guidance, and production planning support
  • Drive continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, focusing on quality, efficiency, and cost optimization
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining and mechanical assembly challenges with practical, data-driven solutions
  • Design and document fixtures, tooling, and gages to support machining, inspection, and assembly operations
  • Develop and refine material specifications for machined components to optimize manufacturability
  • Partner with CNC programmers to support print interpretation, CAD model accuracy, and process execution
  • Create and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, quality control plans, and test procedures
  • Support training initiatives for production teams across machining and assembly functions
  • Work closely with Quality and Design Engineering to address non-conformances using corrective and preventive actions
  • Assist with facility layout planning, equipment installation, and process flow optimization
  • Help develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for manufacturing equipment
  • Apply ITW Toolbox and lean methodologies to drive measurable process improvements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
  • A minimum of six to eight plus years of hands-on experience in a machining and/or mechanical assembly environment
  • Working knowledge of machining processes: turning, milling, drilling, and grinding
  • Familiarity with metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, CMMs)
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software)
  • Understanding of GD&T, product lifecycle management (PLM), and engineering documentation

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, ITW Toolbox)
  • Exposure to data analysis tools such as Power BI, Minitab, or similar
  • Experience supporting CNC programming environments

Additional Information

Occasional domestic travel required (primarily to Norwood, MA headquarters).

Pay

This position has a starting salary range of $78,400 to $90,000 per year. Pay is determined by several factors, including a candidate’s experience, relevant skills, and qualifications.
