Manufacturing Engineer

Waukesha Bearings Corporation, a subsidiary of Dover Precision Components, is part of Dover Corporation’s Pumps and Process solutions segment. Based in Antigo, WI, Waukesha Bearings is a market leader in custom engineered fluid film bearings and magnetic bearing systems for high performing turbomachinery. Our Antigo facility is under ITAR/UNNPI regulations and requires US citizenship.

About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineer directs a wide variety of manufacturing engineering activities to develop and improve standards for industrial processes, materials, and products, ensuring all customer requirements are met in a cost-efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Eliminate hazards through sound engineering practices.
• Develop component part drawings from form, fit, and function assembly drawings using current design standards and processes.
• Apply knowledge of composition and machinability of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, along with machine and tooling capabilities, to develop standardized processes.
• Create and edit routings against both internal and external customer prints, adhering to agreed standard work and best practices.
• Modify customer prints for shop floor use (e.g., converting metric to imperial units, removing non-required views/sections).
• Perform cost estimating functions for new or pending orders, including material identification, obtaining material quotes, and completing cost estimate spreadsheets.
• Submit quotes to Sales personnel.
• Lead cell-level Continuous Improvement Initiatives in conjunction with the Production Manager and shop personnel to standardize and improve current processes.
• Develop and implement improved processes and incorporate them into designs.
• Investigate and troubleshoot process problems, taking necessary corrective actions.
• Confer with Design Engineering to ensure designs fit the best manufacturing processes.
• Request engineering changes to reduce costs, improve quality, or decrease manufacturing times, and coordinate implementation of approved changes.
• Operate computer-aided design equipment to design and develop tooling and fixtures.
• Advise the Production Manager of engineering problems or concerns.
• Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to ensure compliance with company standards.
• Collaborate with other manufacturing engineers to share knowledge and corrective actions, enhancing overall company quality and profitability.
• Justify capital machinery investments.
• Liaise with the tool crib and/or CNC Programmer regarding required tooling, identify needs, and submit requisitions for approval.
• Implement standard setup processes, eliminate the need for special tooling, and utilize existing machine technology where feasible.
• Conduct pre-launch reviews of all new jobs.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years’ machining experience in manufacturing engineering functions, including processes and process improvement.

Skills

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
• Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks like frequency distribution, test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
