Manufacturing Engineer
About the role
This engineer is our first line of defense on the Imaging production floor. Embedded on the line, they keep hardware moving by rapidly troubleshooting in-line issues, driving down downtime, and resolving the technical and process problems that stand between us and shipping product.
Responsibilities
- First Line of Defense: Embed on the production floor to rapidly respond to, diagnose, and resolve in-line production issues across assembly, integration, and test — keeping downtime to an absolute minimum.
- Downtime & Ticket Management: Own the response process when the line goes down. Triage, drive, and close production downtime & non-conformance issues, coordinating engineering, maintenance, quality, and supply chain to restore flow quickly.
- Digital Line Operations: Handle the essential digital administration of the line. Own the day-to-day updates and troubleshooting within our ERP and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) to ensure accurate production tracking, data integrity, and inventory flow.
- Root Cause & Debugging: Perform rapid debugging, testing, and root-cause analysis (RCA) on failing hardware and processes. Implement containment, drive corrective and preventive actions, and escalate systemic issues to the design and quality teams.
- Floor Collaboration: Partner hands-on with technicians and assemblers every day, capturing assembly friction points and feeding improvements back into process and design.
- Documentation & Training: Create, update, and maintain clear, accurate work instructions, SOPs, and rework procedures so the floor always runs to the current standard. Ensure ECO/ECN change implementations are managed and executed on the production floor correctly and on time.
- Continuous Improvement: Analyze line data to surface recurring failures and bottlenecks, and drive incremental improvements to yield, throughput, and first-pass quality.
Requirements
- Degree in a technical field such as mechanical, electrical, systems, or industrial engineering, or a related hard science.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting an active production line — in manufacturing, production, process, sustainment, or industrial engineering.
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience troubleshooting, testing, and assembling electromechanical hardware in a live production environment.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing and managing data within MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and ERP platforms to track yields, routing, and inventory.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace/defense or another regulated, high-reliability industry, including familiarity with defense terminology and processes.
- Exposure to ISO 9001 / AS9100 quality systems.
- Familiarity with optical / opto-mechanical system integration and test.
- Experience in a high-growth or startup manufacturing environment combined with mature-production rigor ("knows what good looks like").
- Familiarity with PLM and WMS platforms.
