About the role

The Manufacturing Engineer will develop plans, design, coordinate, track, qualify, and implement assembly processes that meet Amphenol’s cost and output objectives as well as customer needs. This role focuses on early involvement with product design/development to influence design characteristics for improved manufacturing efficiency and reliability, as well as maintaining and improving existing manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document assembly tooling for new and existing products, including creating concepts, estimating and quoting tools, and designing, building, and validating tooling.
  • Develop and document assembly processes, including process sheets, operating procedures, spare parts lists, and preventative maintenance plans.
  • Define process steps, sequence of operations, material handling, and process control needs, including preliminary process layout.
  • Define process flexibility requirements based on proposed product configurations.
  • Prepare preliminary process specifications, equipment, and systems specifications.
  • Define the supply chain from raw material to customer application.
  • Formulate process step cycle times, efficiencies, yields, and step relationships, including dynamic modeling for process and line balance assumptions.
  • Participate in Product/Process FMEA and risk assessment activities.
  • Define critical product/process parameters.
  • Evaluate safety and occupational health summaries for processes.
  • Develop cost and operational justifications for acquisition of major tooling.
  • Propose and implement cost reduction activities for mature assembly processes.
  • Provide technical design and process information relating to product manufacturability, process and design costs, process risk assessment, and product capability assessment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and perform root cause analysis.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from a four-year university.
  • 4+ years of related experience and/or training within the connector industry (preferred).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical product drawings.
  • Strong tool design experience and Creo skills (desired).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Skills

  • Design software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).
  • Project Management software.
  • Spreadsheet software (Excel).
  • Word Processing software (Word).
  • Presentation software (PowerPoint).
  • Machine Programming and Machine Vision knowledge (a plus).
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with assembly process engineers globally.
  • Capability to develop cost-effective assembly and manufacturing processes to ensure reasonable profit margins.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and provide updates on project status.
