On-siteManufacturingFull-time

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. This position determines and develops effective approaches for resolving a wide range of engineering problems under general supervision with limited review. Work is reviewed at milestones or completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or highly complex manufacturing problems through early, upfront design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure producibility, inspectability, testability, maintainability, and repairability.
  • Responsible for manufacturing process development, implementation, and continuous improvement to enhance Quality/Yield, reduce Cost, and improve Productivity/Schedule.
  • Initiates and leads lean manufacturing process improvement projects.
  • Specifies and implements equipment and processes.
  • Supports manufacturing production planning, coordination, execution, and operations process development.
  • Influences product and process specifications from early design development through pre-production pathfinder and validation test articles to achieve stable production with optimal quality, cost, and cycle time.
  • Troubleshoots conflicting design development vs. production requirements, promotes new methods/process equipment, and evaluates special material requirements.
  • Oversees prototype and pilot builds, documents the build process with standardized work instructions, and defines and implements new manufacturing technologies.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on major new programs, moderate “Block change” upgrade contracts, or single-purpose mission projects.
  • Provides input to design and technical staff, briefs management, and participates effectively in a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
  • Develops manufacturing processes, procedures, and tooling using technical experience and collaborative interaction to improve quality, eliminate non-value-added steps, and shorten lead times.
  • Applies Lean Manufacturing methodologies for waste reduction (e.g., 5S, Standard Work, TAKT, Pull System, Value Stream Mapping, cell design, and manufacturing flow).
  • Collaborates with Design Engineering during prototype, development, and first article manufacturing.
  • Provides support for the disposition of non-conforming product, identifies root cause, and assists in implementing corrective/preventative actions.
  • Reviews and approves engineering designs and changes to ensure manufacturability.
  • Obtains and analyzes manufacturing and test data.
  • Develops and maintains work instructions to guide technicians in assembly.
  • Liaises work orders to reflect process changes, non-conformity dispositions, and engineering changes.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD clearance is required.
