About the role

The Company Test and Evaluation (BT&E) team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support fabrication planning, setup, and installation by providing design review, manufacturing plan authorship, and fabrication sourcing (both internal and external to the company). This role involves close collaboration with an in-house shop team of tooling and aircraft mechanics to support operations in the St. Louis Structures and Materials Test Lab, which serves the full structural testing needs of BDS Programs, including component tests up to full-scale aircraft testing.

Manufacturing Engineers own the build plan, ensuring compliance with design configuration, build plan, and process requirements. Responsibilities include performing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) analysis and developing integrated build plans with work instructions for assembly, kitting, tooling, inspection, and other outputs to meet design, test, and program requirements.

Opportunities exist to work on advanced military programs such as the T-7A Redhawk, MQ-25A Stingray, Phantom Works programs, Company Weapons programs, and legacy platforms like the F-15 and F/A-18. Positions are available for a broad range of experience levels, including Associate, Experienced, and Senior Manufacturing Engineers. This role is 100% onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize test hardware and instrumentation requirements to support machine shop fabrication, laboratory, and flight test
  • Review design models and drawings
  • Create and review redlines, coordinating with design teams to incorporate updates
  • Author manufacturing plans to facilitate build processes
  • Source fabrication and assembly, including creating work statements as needed
  • Coordinate fabrication and act as liaison for part sourcing from production
  • Procure parts and materials to support testing
  • Coordinate with supplier management
  • Provide shipside (at the aircraft) support for test hardware and/or instrumentation installation
  • Support manufacturing engineering tasks across different company sites as needed
  • Collaborate closely with test engineers, technicians, instrumentation engineers, program engineers, customers, fabrication technicians, material management, and electrical/mechanical designers

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent non-U.S. qualifications directly related to the work
  • 2+ years of experience in engineering design or manufacturing engineering
  • 2+ years of experience with manufacturing planning tools
  • 2+ years of experience with a design tool (CAD package) such as CATIA, Siemens NX, etc.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience specific to Manufacturing Engineering
  • Experience working with MESci
  • Experience with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), Flight Configuration Changes (FC), or equivalent engineering change requests
  • Experience with redline creation, review, and coordination with design teams
  • Familiarity with flight test worksheets and/or worksheet authority
  • Knowledge of procurement systems like eParts
  • Knowledge of electrical (wire shop) fabrication capabilities and processes
  • Experience supporting product testing in flight or lab environments
  • Proficiency in CATIA/ENOVIA/NX/Teamcenter
  • Knowledge of machine shop fabrication capabilities, including conventional and CNC machining, EDM, fit/finish tools, processes, and QA inspection
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping processes and tools
  • Familiarity with stress analysis/structural analysis

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g., Bachelor’s degree) and 5+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD, Master’s + 3 years). In the U.S., ABET accreditation is preferred but not required.
