About the role
Work with local & international partners to successfully design & implement machine controls and engine controls on our existing or new machining and assembly lines for our world-changing products.
Responsibilities
- Participate and or lead a team for planning and leading complex systems and projects which includes: researching vendors, creating technical specifications, requesting quotations, selecting vendors, creating timelines, issuing purchase requisitions (coordinate with Purchasing), scheduling installations and tryouts, qualifying and approving equipment/tooling for projects, and etc.
- Lead the controls portion of an internal or external project.
- Ensure engineering practices comply with government regulations and safety standards.
- Implement and support hardware and software for PLC, CNC, HMI and Engine controls.
- Implement and support device level networks.
- Implement and support servo and VFD hardware and software.
- Implement and support manufacturing monitoring systems with emphasis on interfacing to higher-level systems.
- Independently applies processes and standards to the needs and progress of projects.
- Responsible for funding planning and tracking of complex over-arching projects based on Daimler standard project funding principles (CAPEX, NRE, EA1, EA2, and OP) as needed.
- Proactively manage and adopt spending plans as needed to meet cost targets.
- Able to identify shortfalls in projects or tasks and independently develop countermeasures, resolutions and implement effectiveness.
- Independently utilize the appropriate project management tools for your project / task.
- Independently lead project teams with production, maintenance, product engineering, quality, suppliers, etc.
- Independently promotes continuous improvements and actively screens markets and implements.
- Schedule time according to established job priorities. Monitor work progress and resolves problems to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Effectively work with hourly and skilled trades union workers.
- Must be able to provide management with regular reports / presentations on project work plans and status for information and resource management purposes.
- Must be able to professionally represent ME and actively participate in CVDS and PPR projects.
- Need to have the ability to coach, mentor, and delegate to other team members.
- Apply controls technology to new and existing processes to provide optimal manufacturing solutions.
- Specify, manage, and assist with control designs for new manufacturing equipment procurement.
- Provide controls technical assistance and support to manufacturing operations.
- Participate in design reviews with suppliers to develop and implement the best overall equipment design.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree-Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in controls engineering
- Minimum 4 years of experience with Siemens controls
- Experience in manufacturing machining and assembly controls equipment hardware and software design practices and standards
- Experience using PC hardware and Microsoft Windows in a networked plant floor environment
- Experience in a project lead role
Qualifications
- Must be able to travel, including international (~10%)
- Must be able to articulate technical information in written and oral communication
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must be able to oversee activities of tradesmen and/or contractors
- Must be able to provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance and other functional groups on request
- AutoCAD experience with controls related drawings
- Organize shop floor management meetings
Skills
- Project management or supervisory experience
- Global project experience
- Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Experience with new product launches or machine retrofits
- Experience with production related MES and FIS systems

Pay
Starting salary range of $108,000 - $139,000 USD Pay Offered Dependent On Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
