Manual Lathe Operator

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual mills and lathes.
• Must be proficient fabricating parts from drawings.
• Must be able to accurately measure parts using a variety of instruments as appropriate for a given part or circumstance.
• Must be comfortable machining new and a variety of different parts.
• Ability to improvise a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be experienced setting up and operating manual mills and lathes to machine and turn a variety of parts from drawings and written instructions.
• Must be very proficient using basic measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other instruments and gauges as required.
• Verify conformance of machined work to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, or fixed or telescoping gauges.
• Study machining instructions, job orders, or blueprints to determine dimensional or finish specifications, sequences of operations, setups, or tooling requirements.
• Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools, according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties.

Requirements

• Must have work experience in aerospace (15 years).
• Must have experience with measuring tools, grinding, power and hand tools.
• Experience with close tolerances and finishes preferred.
