Mandarin Teacher (Leave Replacement)

Location: Princeton, New Jersey | Part-time, temporary position from approximately October 2026 to January 2027.

Join our team as a leave replacement Mandarin Teacher at Princeton Friends School. We seek a passionate language educator who loves inspiring students to explore, create, and express themselves through learning Mandarin. Responsibilities

• Implement Mandarin instruction for Preschool through 8th-grade students, adapting provided plans as needed.
• Foster an inclusive classroom where all children feel seen, heard, and supported emotionally, socially, and academically.
• Provide regular communication to students and parents regarding academic progress, assignments, homework, assessments, and behavior.
• Write reports on students’ academic progress, social growth, and learning needs at designated times and meet with parents as necessary.
• Perform assigned non-instructional duties and participate in the life of the school community.
• Collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with families.
• Design, plan, and teach developmentally appropriate curriculum for assigned subject areas.
• Develop lessons and instructional materials to support individualized and small-group instruction.
• Use a variety of instructional and assessment strategies.
• Model empathy, kindness, and equity in all interactions, meeting students where they are.

Requirements

• Relevant degree (Master’s preferred).
• 3–5 years of experience with elementary and/or middle school children (experience in a Quaker school a plus).
• Creativity, patience, and a sense of joy in teaching.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
• Comfort with or willingness to learn tools like Google Classroom and other educational technology.
• Experience with or interest in programs like Responsive Classroom.
• Strong organizational skills to manage teaching and administrative responsibilities.
• CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained upon hire).
• Flexibility to embrace multiple roles within a small school community.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and building relationships across differences.
• Dedication to supporting an inclusive, anti-bias learning environment.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Pay

Compensation is based on an hourly substitute rate of $20/hour, with an expectation of roughly 25 hours/week for 10 weeks. Total salary for the position will be between $4,000 and $6,000.
