As a leave replacement Mandarin Teacher, providing instruction from approximately October 2026 to January 2027, you’ll be at the heart of that mission—helping students grow in their study of Mandarin. What You’ll Do: Reporting to the Head of School, as the leave replacement Mandarin Teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to: Implement Mandarin instruction to Preschool through 8th-grade students, following and adapting the provided plans as needed.Foster a classroom where all children feel seen, heard, and supported—emotionally, socially, and academicallyProvide regular communication to students and parents on academic progress and needs including class assignments, homework, assessments, performance progress and behaviorWrite reports to parents on students’ academic progress, social growth and learning needs at designated times of the year and meet with parents as necessaryPerform assigned non-instructional duties and participate in the life of the school communityCollaborate closely with warm, talented colleagues and communicate regularly and effectively with familiesDesign, plan and teach developmentally appropriate curriculum for assigned subject areas Develop lessons and instructional materials that support individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the learning needs of assigned studentsUse a variety of instructional and assessment strategies Model empathy, kindness, and equity in all your interactions, and meet students where they are You Are Someone Who: Holds a relevant degree (Master’s preferred)Has 3–5 years of experience with elementary and/or middle school children (experience in a Quaker school a plus!)Loves and respects children and believes that teachers and families should work together in support of them Brings creativity, patience, and a sense of joy to your teachingIs able to work independently, and equally values and seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues Is comfortable with, or excited to learn, tools like Google Classroom and other educational techHas experience (or interest) in programs like Responsive ClassroomHas the organizational skills needed to manage both teaching and administrative responsibilitiesHolds a CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained upon hire)Is flexible and understands that working in a small school often means wearing many hats and embracing community lifeBelieves that adult learning is never complete, and approaches professional development opportunities with excitementIs eager to build relationships across differences and support an inclusive, anti-bias learning environment Physical Requirements: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
