Managing Veterinarian

Duties and Responsibilities

• Advances medical care by establishing protocols and providing training to associate doctors.
• Oversees surgical and medical cases, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate estimates, and client communication and education.
• Answers client questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures.
• Provides oversight and direction of medical standards and quality of care.
• Minimizes waste and controls costs related to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug inventories.
• Leads staff and practice by participating in the recruiting and interviewing process for associate doctors and general staff members.
• Maintains and monitors associate doctor performance and production.
• Develops and monitors hospital-specific client compliance protocols and procedures.
• Supports the Hospital Manager with staff training programs and tracking Continuing Education (CE) and DVM licensure.
• Drives revenue and hospital contribution growth by assisting associate doctors in achieving agreed-upon production levels and managing medical expenses.
• Assists in preparing an annual planning strategy, operating budget, and capital budget.
• Maintains and grows the practice's reputation in the community by encouraging positive ongoing community involvement.
• Embraces change and supports innovative programs within the hospital.
• Marks client service, marketing, and NVA growth initiatives.
• Sets goals for adding doctors to the practice when necessary.

Skills And Basic Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university.
• Licensure in good standing to practice in Louisiana.
• Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics.
• Experience in MDVM is welcome, but not required.
• Open to experienced DVMs interested in a leadership role.
• Ability to delegate tasks and achieve results with hospital team members.
• Confidence and effectiveness in making decisions.
• Leadership skills in coaching, correcting, developing, and motivating employees.
• Time and task management abilities.
• Effective engagement with NVA leadership to drive outcomes at the clinic level.
• Professional and courteous demeanor with staff and clients.
