Managing Stockyard Veterinarian
About the role
The Animal Clinic of Monett (ACM) is seeking a Managing Stockyard Veterinarian to join their team. Led by Dr. Ted Dahlstrom and supported by several other ACM doctors, this position will collaborate with the next generation of veterinarians during a transitional period. The Joplin Regional Stockyards (JRS) is one of the largest cattle markets in the world, with over 9 acres of pens under roof and capacity to hold an additional 5000 head in outdoor pens. In 2024, JRS surpassed $1 billion in annual cattle sales.
Responsibilities
- Average 28-32 hours per week (chute-side processing = 24-26 hr/wk; customer consultation, business/inventory collaboration = 4-6 hr/wk)
- Schedule is highly variable and market-driven, typically Monday through Wednesday but can shift week to week. Long days (up to 12–14 hours) are common during special sales or high-volume weeks.
- Outside of clinical duties, provides light consultative support, including product oversight and inventory management. Responsibilities are flexible in timing, with adjustments possible during high-volume weeks or extended workdays.
- Values efficiency and autonomy. No requirement to “make up” hours in slower weeks, and open lines of communication are maintained with the team.
Requirements
Salary is commensurate with experience. Professional dues are 3 per year, professional liability is provided, and there is a 401K with employer match after 90 days. CE allowance is $3000 biennial, PTO is 15 days/year, and full benefits package includes Health, Dental, Vision, STD, LTD, Life, Accident, and more. Up to eight weeks paid parental leave is available after six months, and there is an accelerated ownership opportunity with the Associate Equity Program. Additionally, there is up to six weeks paid medical recovery time for birth mothers and two weeks paid bonding time for all parents.
Qualifications
Must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA accredited school. Must be licensed to practice in Missouri. Experience in mixed-animal practice is preferred, but not required. Strong communication and adaptability skills are essential.
Skills
Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to manage a varied workload are crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
