About the role
We are currently seeking an experienced Managing Scientist for our Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice to be based in our Philadelphia, PA or Burlington, MA office.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the Biological and Ecological Sciences Practice.
- Strategically develop and maintain professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies.
- Direct and support the conduct of analyses and prepare regulatory documents and expert reports.
- Synthesize technical information and apply creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations.
- Develop and maintain professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies.
- Work cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Water Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or another related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience.
- Expert-level knowledge of emerging chemicals and plastics/microplastics in the environment.
- Strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues.
- Proven experience with data analysis, modeling, and statistics.
- Proven experience in the assessment of risk.
- Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications.
- Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff.
Qualifications
- Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to water quality and related environmental sciences, including ESA, NEPA, TSCA, REACH, RCRA, CERCLA, and Clean Water Act in the U.S. and similar laws and regulations in other countries.
- Experience in addressing both proactive and litigation-related matters.

Pay
USD $136,000.00 - USD $166,000.00 /Yr.
