Managing Director, Senior Program Counsel - Risk & Compliance

Responsibilities
- Provide strategic counsel and advise internal clients, including foundation executives, leaders, management and staff regarding a variety of issues related to legal compliance and risk management for the foundation’s business and operations, including but not limited to, privacy, information security and artificial intelligence direct services to children, youth and families, licensing and accreditation issues, applicable employment laws and issues nationwide, insurance issues and risks in contracting, disputes and litigation matters.
- Partners with programmatic work units to provide advice and counsel on programmatic issues, including child and family matters and other partnerships and collaborations, in furtherance of Casey’s mission.
- Manage all of the foundation’s litigation and legal disputes, including reviewing, evaluating and responding to lawsuits, governmental investigations, demands and subpoenas; engaging and managing outside counsel as needed; and preparing legal briefings for the Executive Team and Board of Trustees.
- Partner with and oversee Senior Director/employment counsel on employment matters, including reviewing and revising policies to stay current with evolving laws, providing legal advice and counsel on employment matters including accommodation issues, directing attorney-client privileged investigations when needed, providing counsel to HR on employee investigations, and partnering on management of employee conflicts of interest.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws as well as internal policies and procedures, including but not limited to best employment policies and practices, foster care licensing and accreditation requirements, protection of human subjects and privacy.
- Supervise and manage the legal department’s Senior Director, Program Counsel – Privacy and Senior Director, Program Counsel - Employment.
- Perform legal analysis and develop policies, procedures and guidelines on a variety of legal topics related to foundation’s programs as requested by the Chief Program Counsel.
- Develop and provide training and educational programs on legal requirements to foundation leaders, management, and staff.
Qualifications
- Law Degree with a minimum of fifteen years, broad-based experience in the private, public, or non-profit sector is required.
- At least five years supervisory experience is required.
- Knowledge of and responsible experience with employment laws, litigation, and privacy and security laws, and risk management is critical.
- A working knowledge of pertinent laws and regulations related to children, youth, and families is expected.
- Knowledge about, competence in and familiarity with the infrastructures of child welfare systems, the legal and legislative aspects of child protection, long and short-term foster care, adoption and guardianship, and legal requirements related to grants is highly desired.
- A Privacy Certification through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), such as CIPP/US and CIPM is highly desired and preferred.

Employees that meet certain tenure qualifiers are eligible for up to eight weeks of parental leave for the birth or placement of a child for adoption or foster care. After the completion of 10 years of continuous, full-time regular employment, employees in good standing are permitted for a three-month sabbatical with pay.
Pay
The typical hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA is $210,290 to $247,400. The full salary range for the role is $210,290 to $284,510. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
Schedule
This is a regular full-time position that may require travel up to 20% of the time.
