Managing Director Relationship Manager-Sponsor

This position is responsible for acquiring, managing, and enhancing Sponsor Finance relationships. The Managing Director serves as the primary contact to provide products and services supporting the unique financial needs of clients, offering a single point of contact for financial sponsors to access the Bank's cash flow and asset-based lending solutions, debt capital markets, and treasury management. This role collaborates with various corporate partners to build and manage full banking relationships and may act as a team lead, mentor, or resource for less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

  • Sales & Marketing – Utilizes direct calling and centers of influence (COIs) to develop relationships and generate financing for clients. Identifies sales opportunities through clients and referral partners. Stays informed on market and industry trends and develops strategies based on changing market needs.
  • Relationship Development – Maintains and develops influential relationships within the market to create sales and referral opportunities. Manages customer and prospect relationships, referring sales partners or other associates as appropriate to carry sales relationships to completion.
  • Operations and Administration – Complies with all regulations, bank policies, procedures, and delegated authorities to manage risk related to credit, operational, reputational, regulatory, and legal aspects of personal interactions, customer transactions, and financial exposures. Completes required training by established deadlines.
  • Loan Support – Works in partnership with underwriting and portfolio management teams to package deals for Credit Administration approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience in Commercial Banking, Relationship Management, or Sales or High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Commercial Banking, Relationship Management, or Sales.
  • Ten years’ experience calling on Private Equity Sponsors as the primary point of contact for Business Development.
  • Five or more years’ experience in underwriting/financial statement analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to build/analyze complex financial models with assumption drivers appropriate for a particular business model and industry.
  • Thorough understanding of credit, structuring, legal, and collateral requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and quickly build successful working relationships with co-workers, business partners, and management.
  • Effectively communicate through well-developed presentation, written, and verbal skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Preferred area of study: Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
  • Preferred area of experience: Sponsor/Leveraged Finance.
