This is a full-time remote position based in Texas, with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

About the role

The Managing Director of HR Operations leads the strategy, systems, and daily execution of all human resources operations across IDEA Public Schools. This role ensures efficient, compliant, and employee-centered HR services that support employee records, HR systems, and leave management. The MD of HR Operations partners closely with school leaders and executive leadership to build scalable HR processes that support student achievement through strong staff support and operational excellence.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee a Shared Service Center of 15 team members with Director of Shared Services as direct report: (11) Shared Services Clerks and (3) Shared Services Managers.

Travel Expectations

  • Occasional travel to IDEA training events or step back.

Responsibilities

  • Lead from a compelling multi-year vision and data-informed position that delivers on quality improvements for staff through strategic changes across talent, including but not limited to HR systems, talent policies and practices, and management skills that support.
  • Ensure compliance with Family Medical Leave and other applicable leaves and lead the organization through necessary changes to maintain ongoing compliance, including updating HR resources, training staff and supervisors, and partnering with internal and external counsel.
  • Implement and ensure strong system execution that provides accurate data, strong employee services, and high-quality coordination and partnership with other talent functions and campus leaders.
  • Design and implement system-level protocols to ensure that all HR operations provide an exceptional experience for staff while aligning and complying with IDEA policies, state and federal labor laws, and ensure consistent, fair, and equitable application of policies and procedures to all staff, regardless of position or status.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline HR processes and enhance employee service delivery.
  • Manage the professional growth of direct report(s) and team to build a strong HR leadership “bench.”
  • Leverage resources and develop tools to guide the department’s work and to support its goals and organizational priorities.
  • Develop and manage strong internal and external relationships to support the HR Operations department’s work.
  • Serve as an advisor to VP of HR and executive leadership on HR operations, compliance, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Represent Talent team on HR Operations related matters and develop relationships as needed to further IDEA’s overall strategy, initiatives, and priorities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Proactively identify and address communication gaps across workstreams, implementing solutions to enhance coordination, while anticipating and resolving stakeholder concerns before they surface.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in K-12 Education, charter schools, multi-campus organizations, or public sector environments strongly preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant progressive professional work experience in a public school district, public administration, charter school/education management organization, or university with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience and verified experience in HR, employee leave, or equivalent experience.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent HR certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Regular use of office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and copiers.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 10-15 pounds.

Pay

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $119,000 and $142,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
