About the role

The Managing Director, Individual Giving will report to the Senior Manager, Development and will be based in the New York City area. The priority deadline for applications is August 5th, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, cultivate, steward, and solicit (when appropriate) a portfolio of individual donors.

  • Plan and execute annual stewardship programs for individual donors at various levels, including mid level and major giving circles.

  • Support the Senior Manager, Development and Executive Director in managing the New York Board, including preparing for quarterly meetings, cultivating new Board members, and supporting Board members in their fundraising efforts.

  • Identify, pursue, and secure new funding, sustainably growing and diversifying the individual giving fundraising stream.

  • Set vision, strategy, and plan for cultivating a portfolio of individual donors, incorporating input from the Senior Manager, Development and Executive Director with the goal of maximizing revenue to the organization as a whole.

  • Work in close partnership with the Senior Manager, Development and Executive Director to build the relationships necessary to advance fundraising efforts, including with local advisory board members, and throughout the NYC philanthropic community.

  • Plan and execute annual and multi-year individual giving fundraising campaigns.

  • Lead stream portfolio reviews, including moves management progress checks. Identify opportunities to strengthen pipeline, engagement, and overall portfolio health.

  • Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system (currently SalesForce) and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach.

  • Partner with the Senior Manager, Development, Executive Director, and regional colleagues to understand Teach For America’s vision and strategic plan for impact in New York, and translate regional priorities to a focused case for support.

  • Participate in organization-wide initiatives such as corps member selection, and regional engagements such as school visits, regional team meetings, and alumni induction.

Requirements

  • At least 7+ years of related experience in development and fundraising context.

  • Track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals.

  • Experience stewarding a diverse portfolio of donors/funders from various funding streams, including grant writing and reporting.

  • Leverage historical local development trends in order to set strategy and/or adjust course as necessary.

  • Set vision and direction for a specific portfolio of local donors and independently execute on that strategy in service of maximizing revenue to Teach For America as an enterprise.

  • Monitor progress against the portfolio to ensure continuous donor stewardship.

  • Relationship Building and Management: Highly skilled relationship builder, particularly with external prospects and donors. Build and execute comprehensive relationship management plans across a portfolio of donors.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Fundraising and Development: Specialize in best practices of development and fundraising. Track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals.

  • Portfolio Management: Set vision and direction for a specific portfolio of local donors and independently execute on that strategy in service of maximizing revenue to Teach For America as an enterprise. Monitor progress against the portfolio to ensure continuous donor stewardship.

Pay

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below.

  • Salary Grade 111A: $90,000 - $118,100

  • Salary Grade 111B: $98,000 - $128,700

  • Salary Grade 111C: $106,100 - $139,300

Schedule

This is a hybrid-remote position, but strongly encouraged to be in the office once per week and for meetings and events as required.
