Managing Director, Development Services
About the role
We are seeking a Managing Director of Development Services to lead our team in securing strategic sites for renewable energy development. This role requires a proven track record of managing a team, a strong understanding of utility infrastructure, and experience with land title records and curatives.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the SVP of Project Development and senior leadership to set long-term strategy and goals for the Development Services team.
- Set goals, strategy, and tactics for the Development Services team.
- Lead, mentor, and support the Development Services team for effective execution of targets.
- Manage all aspects of the Development Services team.
- Identify, contract, and manage third party land agents and scouts to deliver new sites.
- Own and manage the Development Services budget.
- Own a dual mandate to drive volume up and drive project risk down.
- Provide a face for the Development Services team across functions and contribute to furthering Company initiatives and momentum as a senior leader.
- Maintain and grow an industry network to benchmark and further the Company’s brand and opportunity/talent funnel.
- Drive strategy internally and cross-functionally.
- Manage to a defined goal of Lease Option Agreements (LOAs) signed across the market level teams on an annual basis.
- Support teams with legal sign-off.
- Manage outside consultants such as Title companies and Environmental consultants.
- Understand property title reports.
- Understand GIS data acquisition and GIS analyses.
- Manage the market level team strategies to utilize GIS to improve land acquisition strategies.
- Research local zoning bylaws and interact with municipal authorities having jurisdiction.
- Manage relationships with landowners and facilitate the negotiation of business terms for prospective PV development opportunities both via email/phone and in-person.
- Conduct fatal flaw on-site assessments of prospective PV development opportunities.
- Manage pipeline of PV development prospects in BlueWave’s CRM platform: Salesforce.
- Present findings on new LOA opportunities based on path to commercialization and valuation to the BlueWave investment committee for approval.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and 15+ years of professional, relevant work experience.
- MBA or Graduate degree preferred.
- Proven effective management approach with prior experience managing a team.
- Drives strategy at the team level and across functions.
- Strong data driven decision making at all levels.
- Strong use of CRM/excel for tracking and analysis.
- Strong negotiating and deal making, respected and valued resource for peers and for those they manage.
Qualifications
- Must have a strong understanding of utility infrastructure and land title records and curatives.
- Must have experience with renewable energy development.
- Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Must have a track record of consistent achievement managing a division or organization consisting of several teams.
Skills
