About the role
The Managing Director, Development position reports to the Senior Managing Director, Development and is based in the Bay Area region of California. Candidates must reside within the San Francisco Bay Area or within 20 miles of the region. This role requires frequent travel throughout the Bay Area for donor meetings, events, and partnership engagements.
Responsibilities
- Set vision, strategy, and plan for cultivating a portfolio of donors, incorporating input from the Executive Director and VP, Field Fundraising with the goal of maximizing revenue to the organization as a whole
- Manage, cultivate, steward, and solicit (when appropriate) a portfolio of donors
- Work in close partnership with the Senior Managing Director, Development and local Executive Director to build the relationships necessary to advance fundraising efforts, including local advisory board members
- Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system (CRM) and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach
- Steward team and organizational initiatives
Qualifications
- At least 7+ years of related experience in a fast-paced development and fundraising environment, with experience soliciting and securing 5- and 6-figure gifts
- Track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals
- Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals as a donor portfolio manager
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, navigate ambiguity, and collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team environment to advance fundraising and organizational goals
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Prior experience Preferred: Fundraising certification (i.e. CRFE/CRFM or the equivalent) and/or related Master’s Degree (e.g. MBA, M, Non-Profit Management)
