About the Role

Oversees and performs testing and examination to determine a patient's hearing level, balance assessment, and/or the site and nature of any damage. Interprets diagnostic audiological results with other diagnostic data to formulate patient diagnoses, plans, and oversees interrelated auditory disorder treatments to ensure best practices and positive care outcomes. Conducts treatment for patients including habilitative, rehabilitative, or conservation programs, custom fitting, programming, and troubleshooting of hearing aids, and counseling individuals with auditory and balance disorders, their families, and other service providers.

Provides training, maintains records of diagnostic findings and progress using appropriate software, and evaluates clinical and research procedures as well as improved methods for evaluating persons with auditory and balance disorders. Delivers audiology education for patients and professionals regarding pre-hearing aid expectations, post-purchase use and care, and hearing and balance disorders.

  • Manages designated work unit or team by translating business plans into tactical action items; oversees completion of work assignments and identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Aligns team efforts; builds accountability for and measures progress in achieving results; determines and ensures processes and methodologies are implemented; resolves escalated issues as appropriate; sets standards and measures progress.
  • Fosters the development of work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; obtains and distributes resources; removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and addresses improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts and ensures patients receive quality treatment by:
    • Overseeing and maintaining quality of care and service standards for habilitative, rehabilitative, or conservation programs.
    • Counseling individuals with auditory disorders, their families, and other service providers regarding the etiology of the disorder, its management, recommended follow-up, and treatment plan.
    • Developing training plans to improve counseling capabilities across multiple audiology departments.
    • Custom fitting and programming hearing aids, troubleshooting hearing aid problems, providing in-office maintenance and repair, performing electroacoustic analysis, and Rear Ear measurement to ensure patient benefit.
    • Monitoring all activities of the Hearing Aid Center business venture.
  • Ensures diagnostic information is properly utilized by:
    • Coordinating diagnostic audiological results with other diagnostic data (educational, medical, social, and behavioral information).
    • Developing training plans to support the integration of this information.
    • Independently interpreting results and fostering an understanding of auditory diagnostic processes for all audiologists in a region.
    • Monitoring changes in relevant audiometric and other diagnostic data to determine progress through treatment and identify treatment issues.
  • Manages audiology education for patients and other professionals by:
    • Preparing, coordinating, and presenting patient educational classes on pre-hearing aid expectations, post-purchase use and care, and hearing and balance disorders.
    • Planning, developing, and overseeing seminars/workshops to teach audiology to professional staff and train them to conduct audiometry.
    • Supervising staff to ensure compliance with audiology licensing laws, ethical codes, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains and manages recordkeeping by:
    • Independently recording and providing training to audiologists regarding diagnostic and progress recording software.
    • Completing required visit documentation, reporting results, billing, and service capture.
    • Overseeing the completion of required documentation, analyzing reports for potential risks or issues, and determining reporting processes.
  • Influences research and evaluation by:
    • Designing and developing strategic, cutting-edge clinical and research procedures.
    • Ensuring familiarity with recent advancements in clinical and research procedures and improved evaluation methods.
    • Conducting and overseeing postoperative studies to determine hearing improvement achieved through surgery.
    • Utilizing innovation and ingenuity to develop solutions to complex cases.
    • Reporting results of research and evaluation and determining the direction of research in accordance with organizational long-term strategic plans.
  • Oversees and performs testing and examination by:
    • Ensuring appropriate physical and otoscopic examination of the outer structure of the ear.
    • Monitoring the administration of acoustic and electro-acoustic tests and ensuring correct processes through training programs.
    • Administering tests to determine a patient's hearing level, balance assessment, and/or the site and nature of any damage.
  • Plans and oversees treatment planning by:
    • Anticipating and predicting potential benefits of several interrelated auditory disorder treatments.
    • Leading teams to identify auditory disorder treatments and determining organization-wide treatment capability plans.
    • Coordinating habilitative and rehabilitative programs and developing new regional and/or service area initiatives.
    • Leading planning for new equipment, space, and facility upgrades, and providing recommendations for vendor service contracts.
    • Partnering with other chiefs of service and managing teams to coordinate with professionals such as audiologists, surgeons, physical therapists, and oncologists to ensure best practices and positive care outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
  • Doctorate degree in Audiology, Speech and Hearing Science, Communication Disorders AND minimum four (4) years of experience in audiology or a directly related field OR Masters degree in Audiology, Speech and Hearing Science, Communication Disorders AND minimum six (6) years of experience in audiology or a directly related field.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
  • Temporary Audiologist License (California) required at hire OR Audiologist License (California) required at hire.
  • Audiologist License (California) within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Dispensing Audiologist License in state of primary practice.
  • Two (2) years experience leading or managing in a complex union/management environment.
