About the Role
Responsible for the overall efficiency of the internal fleet, this position oversees total POOLCORP internal transportation expenses and seeks to minimize costs while optimizing utilization of all transportation assets. The role focuses on providing cost-effective methods for product delivery and inbound logistics. As a change agent, the candidate will use procedures, staff, and third-party solutions to elevate field service levels to meet expectations. The position manages a Fleet Specialist and over 2,600 assets, including Material Handling Equipment, MD/HD Trucks, and LD Admin Trucks.
Responsibilities
- Understand business needs related to fulfilling customer delivery expectations.
- Collaborate with locations to ensure customer needs are met with cost-effective service.
- Monitor costs and direct field locations to take corrective action.
- Assess current fleet capacity and recommend reductions or adjustments based on delivery characteristics.
- Analyze requested fleet asset additions from field management.
- Monitor utilization reporting for all fleet assets using company fleet route optimization software.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and channel repair/maintenance to economical providers while minimizing downtime.
- Review status of down vehicles and expedite return to service while controlling costs.
- Incorporate field sales center needs into fleet strategy and maintain communication with field management.
- Keep field management informed and trained on cost and fleet tracking tools.
- Understand Driver and Procurement Policies and Procedures.
- Assist in operational functions related to delivery and warehouse equipment as needed.
- Continuously improve fleet operations and communicate new procedures/policies.
- Provide guidance and input into POOLCORP’s efficient, cost-effective movement of goods via internal fleet or third-party carriers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with fleet maintenance management and warehouse equipment procurement.
- Knowledge of industry-related software (e.g., TMW-Appian, Descartes, Roadnet, Samsara).
- Thorough knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, OSHA, DOT, and related State and Federal regulations.
- Experience with fleet analytics and utilization.
- Results-driven, self-starter with the ability to lead a team in a deadline-driven environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience negotiating and overseeing third-party fleet management companies (e.g., ARI, Element).
- CDL driving and warehouse experience preferred.
- Certified Technician preferred.
