About the Role

Provides leadership, direction, and oversight for all Transmission Line Design Engineering activities, including preliminary project scoping and planning, project estimating, engineering and material specifications, drawing development, design reviews and approvals, surveying, geotechnical analyses, regulatory line approval activities, contract management, workgroup direction and strategic planning, configuration management, standards development, and compliance.

This position manages employees who perform research and testing on transmission line systems, including electrical research that supports aggressive growth of the transmission business. Responsibilities may include new product evaluation, manufacturer audits, and engagement with industry leaders such as EPRI. The successful candidate will serve as the technical leader for all transmission root cause evaluations and lead teams to investigate undesirable transmission line events.

Provides technical interaction with Long Term Planning, System Operations, PM&C, CP-T, Telecom, Distribution, and peers from other utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for tracking and controlling the engineering phase of project costs, project schedules, and engineering quality to meet all project goals, achieve critical milestones, and accomplish required levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Accountable for the resolution of technical transmission line engineering conflicts that affect cost, schedule, quality, or customer satisfaction.
  • Respond to transmission line-related regulatory compliance issues; provide technical engineering expertise in developing responses to regulatory requests from FERC, NERC, SERC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Actively participate in industry forums, serving as Entergy's Transmission Line Design representative on national industry committees. Support subject matter experts in authoring technical presentations for industry committees.
  • Support technology initiatives, material vendor evaluation, standard interpretation, and other improvement opportunities to design and construct transmission facilities safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Ensure the integration of safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management practices into final transmission line products, designs, and processes.
  • Accountable for effective Transmission Line Design resource management, including workload distribution, resource productivity, contractor management, and employee development.
  • Develop and provide processes and tools to improve project cost, cycle time, and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the utility industry with experience in various engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of transmission line design practices, standards, procedures, and processes; thorough understanding of planning, project management, operations, and/or construction.
  • Experience in managing/executing capital and/or O&M projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of moving frequently between multiple tasks while prioritizing conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; team player.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), budgets, financial procedures, and property accounting.
  • Professional Engineer registration in at least one state in Entergy’s service area desired.

Location

While New Orleans, LA is the preferred location, the hiring team is open to considering candidates based in other areas within Entergy’s service territory, including Baton Rouge, Jackson, Little Rock, and The Woodlands.

Travel up to 25% may be required.
