About the role

The Manager Trainee is a full-time, entry-level position designed to prepare you for a leadership role within 84 Lumber. This hands-on training program covers all aspects of store operations, with the goal of promotion to a management position within 6–12 months (based on performance and availability), potentially increasing annual pay by up to 40%. Many trainees progress to General Manager roles within 3–4 years. Relocation may be required for management positions.

No prior experience is necessary—just dedication and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Sales and customer service: Support customers and drive sales in a retail environment.
• Store operations and inventory management: Oversee material/supply chain flow, stock, and merchandising.
• Blueprint reading and estimation: Create material estimates for building projects.
• Forklift operation and certification: Safely handle materials and equipment.
• Business management: Handle payroll, invoicing, inventory, and financial analysis.
• Microsoft Office Suite: Enhance skills through training (prior experience preferred).
• Interpret and analyze common financial reports.
• Read blueprints and create material lists.
• Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Full-time availability (48+ hours/week, including overtime).

Work environment

This role operates in both indoor and outdoor settings, assisting customers in all weather conditions (wet, humid, hot, or cold). Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 80 pounds. Exposure to machinery and airborne particles may occur.
