About the Role

The Manager Trainee is a full-time, entry-level position designed to prepare you for a leadership role within 84 Lumber. This role provides hands-on training across all aspects of store operations, with the goal of promotion to a management position within 6-12 months. Successful trainees can see up to a 40% increase in annual pay upon promotion and may progress to General Manager roles within 3-4 years. Relocation may be required for management positions. No prior experience is necessary—just dedication and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Support customers and drive sales in a retail store environment.
  • Oversee store operations, including material and supply chain flow, stock, and merchandising.
  • Read blueprints and create material estimates for building projects.
  • Operate forklifts and handle materials safely (certification provided).
  • Manage payroll, invoicing, inventory, and financial analysis using POS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Interpret and analyze common financial reports.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Complete a structured training plan, including classroom, online, and hands-on learning across various operational areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Full-time availability (48+ hours/week, including overtime).
  • Willingness to relocate for management positions.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role involves working in both indoor and outdoor settings, assisting customers in all weather conditions (wet, humid, hot, or cold). Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 80 pounds) are required. You may also work around machinery and airborne particles.
