About the Role

Northrop Grumman is seeking a second shift Manager Test Inspection 2 to support the Quality & Mission Assurance function at our Elkton, Maryland site. The Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems for Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. The area offers charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award-winning restaurants, and outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping, bird watching, horseback riding, and fishing. Explore the Chesapeake Bay, five rivers, and the C&D Canal by boat or land, and enjoy panoramic views from Turkey Point Lighthouse or the banks of the C&D Canal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily shift guidance to a team of inspectors supporting metal parts, calibration, and in-process inspection.
  • Ensure inspection tools, equipment, and process control documents adhere to quality requirements.
  • Work with cross-functional management to prioritize manufacturing and product testing.
  • Identify and resolve quality-related issues expeditiously and proficiently.
  • Drive continual improvement through Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Perform as a working manager, assisting in inspections and improving throughput.

Success in this role requires sound judgment, innovative thinking, and excellent interpersonal and management skills to plan, motivate, and accomplish goals through your staff.

Requirements

  • Five years or more experience in varying metrology disciplines (receiving inspection, in-process, calibration, etc.).
  • Prior management experience.
  • Experience with varying software, including PC-DMIS.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T, AS9102, AS9100, and RCCA.
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to acquire a security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Quality-related certifications such as Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), CMQ/OE, etc.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Previous second shift management experience.

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval.
