About the role
The Telecom Manager – MDU at North Sky Communications oversees the planning, engineering, scheduling, and active deployment of telecommunications infrastructure within Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs), including apartment complexes, condominiums, and master-planned communities. This role manages cross-functional field teams, coordinates with subcontractors, and maintains strong relationships with regional property developers and management companies to ensure projects are executed safely, on time, and within margin targets.Responsibilities
- Project Execution & Lifecycle Management: Lead the end-to-end deployment of MDU projects, covering site surveys, engineering design validation, local permitting, ISP/OSP construction (fiber/coaxial), and final testing/provisioning.
- Property & Right-of-Entry (ROE) Coordination: Partner with business development and property management entities to secure required site access, manage engineering walkthroughs, and resolve complex Right-of-Way (ROW) issues specific to private property.
- Field Leadership & Subcontractor Management: Directly supervise internal field technicians, construction supervisors, and external placement/splicing subcontractors. Maintain a high-performance safety culture adhering to OSHA and company regulations.
- Financial Oversight: Manage project and market budgets, approve subcontractor invoices, track material yields (conduit, microduct, fiber optic cabling), and report on key production metrics.
- Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance: Conduct systematic quality audits of completed work to ensure strict compliance with North Sky engineering expectations, customer standard operating procedures, and local building/National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Client & Executive Reporting: Act as the primary point of contact for regional telecom clients, providing clear data on project milestones, material tracking, and production forecasting.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in telecommunications construction management, network deployment, or field engineering—specifically focusing on MDU/MTU environments.
- Leadership: 2+ years of experience managing field crews, construction supervisors, or multi-disciplinary project teams in an OSP/ISP utility construction setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong operational knowledge of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH/FTTP) architectures, structured cabling, pathway design (conduit, core drilling, microtrenching), and optical fiber splicing/testing practices.
- Document Proficiency: Ability to interpret detailed engineering schematics, construction prints, base maps, and property blueprints.
- Driver's License: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required, as regular travel to regional construction sites and property meetings is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent project tracking certification is a plus!
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification - always good to have.
- Familiarity with proprietary customer management platforms and project mapping tools (ArcGIS, SpatialData, or custom design suites).
Working Conditions
- Split environment between an office/yard setting and active indoor/outdoor construction environments.
- Frequent travel throughout local and regional market footprints to inspect field progression and meet with stakeholders.
