Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Oversee the design and planning of short-term and long-term mining activities to maximize the utilization and effectiveness of the Production team and the resource.
- Oversee and coordinate all mine planning activities for the permitting process and operation.
- Responsible for all environmental and leasing activities.
- Manage all technical regulatory interaction and requirements with state and federal agencies -- WLQD, WAQD, EPA, NRC, MSHA, BLM, SEO, and OSM.
- Ensure the short-term plan is aligned with the long-term plan.
- Develop and communicate the short-term mine design, short term production schedules, and provide all supporting technical services including environmental, mine planning, surveying and scheduling.
- Provide leadership necessary to define and achieve Technical Services goals and targets.
- Ensure employees have a clear understanding of expected safety performance and perform risk assessments as needed.
- Direct the Technical Services budgeting process.
- Recognize and critically evaluate mine design requirements, mining methods, equipment selection, and production sequencing optimization.
- Establish department goals and objectives that align with site and corporate strategies.
- Work with other departments to understand short, intermediate and long-term planning goals and develop strategies to achieve goals.
- Develop AFE's and provide economic justifications for capital spend.
- Responsible for Technical Services headcount and succession planning for the team.
- Responsible for all Mine Monitoring and Control Systems at the mine.
- Represent NTEC and recruit engineer interns at college fair events.
- Coach, mentor, and assist with professional development of engineers and interns.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and Relevant Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field and 8-10 years' experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge to successfully perform the job.
- Solid understanding of project management and successful delivery of objectives.
- Professional Engineer License is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong mine design background that includes dragline design.
- Sound business acumen and well-developed assessment, judgment and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong conflict management skills to include resolution of complex employee relation issues.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong negotiating skills and experience as well as strong presentation skills.
- Leadership/Management Ability to build relationships and work well across functions.
- Must be able to manage competing demands, accept criticism and constructive feedback, while being extremely adaptable and flexible.
- Demonstrate ability to organize priorities in order to reach the goals and deliverables.
- Demonstrates competence in key areas of management and leadership expertise including relationship management, communication, staff direction and motivation, financial planning and control, quality manage ent, risk management, and the achievement of targets.

- The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation.

- The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally use a right-hand grip up to 30 pounds of force; and rarely use hand at an elevated level.
- The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating; kneel; and frequently to walk; climb stairs; crouch; squat repetitively; and occasionally crawl.
- Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74%.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment
- Works in office environment and site environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Works outdoors in all weather conditions; working in plant environment; working in shop environment; and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
- Frequent travel required.
- Must be able to handle periodic weekend coverage and support.
