Manager, Tax Counsel
The Manager, Tax Counsel will support FanDuel’s product and technology teams in tax product matters, operating at the intersection of tax, product, and engineering. This role ensures tax requirements are effectively translated into and maintained across FanDuel’s customer-facing products. The ideal candidate will act as a day-to-day advisor to cross-functional teams, translating complex federal, state, and jurisdiction-specific tax laws into clear, actionable guidance.
About the role
You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Tax, Legal, and Finance teams to integrate tax requirements into product functionality and user experience. Your guidance will directly inform product decisions and help shape compliant, scalable customer experiences while escalating complex or high-risk matters to senior tax leadership.
Responsibilities
- Provide product-facing tax counsel to Product and Engineering teams across FanDuel platforms
- Translate federal, state, and jurisdiction-specific tax laws into actionable product and system requirements
- Interpret applicable tax statutes and regulatory guidance, including gaming taxes and customer tax reporting and withholding requirements
- Review and advise on product features, enhancements, and existing product functionality to identify tax implications and compliance risks
- Monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry standards, and advise stakeholders on relevant impacts
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Tax, Legal, Finance Operations, Compliance, and Customer Support teams to ensure aligned execution
- Serve as a key point of contact for tax-related product questions and cross-functional coordination
- Escalate complex, high-risk, or novel tax issues to senior tax leadership with clear analysis and recommendations
- Support the development and documentation of tax positions and analyses related to product functionality, in partnership with senior tax leadership
- Support coordination with external stakeholders (e.g., regulators, vendors, and advisors) as needed
- Assist in ongoing product compliance monitoring and issue resolution
Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in tax, legal, regulatory advisory, or a related function
- Juris Doctor (JD), CPA, or equivalent experience in tax advisory, tax compliance, or tax law required
- Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and jurisdiction-specific tax laws
- Experience working cross-functionally with product, engineering, or technology teams
- Proven ability to translate complex tax and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable product or operational guidance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues for diverse stakeholders
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and operate effectively in ambiguous or fast-paced environments
- Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills across tax, legal, finance, and product teams
- Experience working in a highly regulated industry (e.g., gaming, fintech, financial services) preferred
- Experience with customer tax reporting and withholding (e.g., Forms W-2G, 1099, 1042) or gaming-related tax frameworks preferred
- Interest in sports betting, gaming, or digital platforms is a plus

Pay
The applicable salary range for this position is $126,000 - 158,000 USD, dependent on relevant experience, location, business needs, and market demand.
