About the role

As Manager, Tax & Compliance Technology, you will lead a people-focused, technically grounded operations team that keeps critical tax technology accurate, resilient, and ready for change. You will combine day-to-day operational leadership with hands-on expertise in tax content, tax determination platforms, compliance controls, escalations, and continuous improvement. You will help translate regulatory and business needs into reliable operating practices while developing a team that can scale with Expedia Group’s global marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a tax technology operations team, setting clear goals, managing performance, building capability, and creating a culture of accountability, inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Own operational performance across tax content management, jurisdiction launches, tax engine administration, monthly remittance changes, incident and problem management, service queues, and critical escalations.
  • Serve as a player-coach and subject matter expert across tax determination and compliance platforms, partnering with Tax, Regulatory, Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and frontline operations to resolve complex issues and improve customer outcomes.
  • Plan capacity, prioritize work, and maintain effective coverage across business-as-usual operations, regulatory change, launches, audits, projects, and urgent requests, including work delivered through managed-service or supplier partners.
  • Establish measurable operating controls, documentation, knowledge-management practices, and readiness criteria that improve accuracy, reduce manual workarounds, and support dependable launches.
  • Influence the technology roadmap by identifying operational bottlenecks, automation opportunities, data and reporting needs, and platform improvements; communicate trade-offs and recommendations to technical and non-technical leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance, Tax, Accounting, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience in technology operations, tax technology, tax operations, compliance technology, or a related domain.
  • 3+ years of experience directly managing, coaching, and developing individual contributors, including experience with performance management and capacity planning.
  • Experience operating and improving multiple technology implementations or operational domains, with a track record of resolving escalations and improving service quality.
  • Experience partnering with technical and business stakeholders to define requirements, assess operational readiness, support testing or launches, and deliver measurable process improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing indirect-tax content, jurisdictional rule changes, tax determination, or tax-engine operations; experience with Vertex, Avalara, or similar platforms is helpful.
  • Experience leading globally distributed teams and coordinating managed-service, vendor, or supplier delivery against service, quality, and control expectations.
  • Familiarity with compliance controls, audit support, regulatory change management, UAT, incident/problem management, and operational readiness practices.
  • Experience using automation, AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows to improve operational accuracy, speed, knowledge access, or reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence product and technology roadmaps, identify cross-team dependencies, and deliver improvements across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
