About the role

The Manager, Substation Engineering role at QTS Data Centers is pivotal in leading the design and technical execution of utility infrastructure. This role interfaces and collaborates with critical stakeholders such as energy leaders, utility engagement teams, pre-development leads, operations leaders, and development team project leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portion of the team driving design and technical execution of substation and utility projects.
  • Lead and develop team of substation engineers, including performance management, technical development, career development, project assignments, and various administrative duties.
  • Provide technical guidance, oversight, and decisions to support development, design, and installation of high voltage substations.
  • Establish and drive strategies to improve project execution through standards, tools, and processes.
  • Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of substation equipment and systems.
  • Identify project execution risks and develop associated mitigation plans.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to substation operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to provide technical support and solutions for utility and power related challenges.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior engineers and field personnel.

Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of utility and energy projects, along with construction management.
  • 2 or more years of people leader experience.
  • Experience delivering utility and/or client HV substations.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with executives and collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Able to travel up to 40% of the time or as needed to support relationship-building and delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology.
