Substation Engineering Manager

About the role

This role is within HDR's Power sector, focusing on substation engineering. You will play a crucial part in shaping how electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered as global energy demands grow.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a partnership with Project Managers, ensuring technical execution of projects.
  • Works closely with the technical leadership team to develop processes and procedures for quality control, technical expertise, and project delivery.
  • Develops and implements a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.
  • Sets up project tasks and provides technical guidance to project team members.
  • Supports the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
  • Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables according to HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures.
  • Supports the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
  • Performs quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis.
  • Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EIT’s, or CADD/Designers.
  • Leads multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
  • Identifies and develops specific technical expertise, attends training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
  • Assists with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
  • Participates in project reviews as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 7 years related experience
  • Minimum 2 years project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus)
