About the role

GEICO is seeking an experienced Manager, Staff Engineering to lead a platform engineering team responsible for building and operating a next-generation Object Storage platform. You will manage a team of 8–10 engineers, drive platform strategy, and deliver scalable, reliable and secure storage solutions. This role requires strong experience in platform development, distributed systems, and storage technologies, along with proven people management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 8–10 engineers, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management
  • Define and deliver the roadmap for the Object Storage platform
  • Guide the design and development of scalable, reliable and secure storage systems
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and operational excellence of the platform
  • Drive best practices in automation, monitoring, and incident management
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align platform capabilities with business needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience in platform or infrastructure teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • Strong experience in distributed systems and platform development
  • Hands-on experience building and operating storage platforms
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, containers, APIs)

Required Expertise

  • Strong experience with Ceph (RGW, RADOS) is required
  • Experience with object storage and S3-compatible architectures
  • Solid understanding of data durability, replication, and consistency models

Pay

Annual Salary: $130,000.00 – $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
