About the Role
The Maps team at Snap is responsible for building the world's most personal map. Our mission is to enhance your relationships with friends, family, and the world, and to provide a place to stay in touch, find things to do together, and explore the world. The team manages the backend services and data infrastructure behind Snapchat's mapping feature, including friend location, places, and content that makes the map feel alive.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of backend engineers, in a fast-paced, quick-to-market environment
- Set the strategy, build a roadmap, create measurable goals, and lead your team to deliver
- Collaborate with Product, Operation, Data Science and Engineering teams, and executive stakeholders
- Evaluate the technical tradeoffs of major decisions and be a strong technical mentor
- Hire, grow and retain high-performing team members
- Utilize AI tools and high velocity engineering workflows to design and ship scalable services while upholding rigorous standards for code correctness, security, and production ready quality code
Qualifications
- Background with building high availability and mission critical backend systems
- Experience with leading an engineering team
- A track record on both sides of the infrastructure and product split
- Ability leading and executing large, complex technical initiatives
- Proficiency in, or a strong aptitude for, leveraging AI tools to streamline development
- Experience with distributed systems and backend service development
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with geospatial or location-based systems
- Familiarity with driving large scale initiatives from ideation to completion
- Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-stakeholder environments
