About the role
Figma is growing its team of engineers to build a platform that enables teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time. As the first engineering manager for the Growth Platform, you'll focus on the Communications capability, helping to define the platform's direction, assess existing technology, and identify the next set of investments.
Responsibilities
- Hire the initial engineers for the Growth Platform’s first team.
- Set the team’s culture, operating rhythm, and engineering standards.
- Mentor engineers, create career growth opportunities, and help scale the organization as scope expands.
- Build capabilities that unlock new experiments, such as personalized messaging, self-service publishing, and cross-system integrations.
- Leverage AI to scale quality and speed, exploring and integrating AI-driven approaches like brand consistency checks, visual quality validation, copy generation, and experiment governance.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, guiding architecture decisions, reviewing system designs, and making build-vs-integrate choices.
- Partner across the company, collaborating with Marketing to align on cross-channel messaging, partnering with growth teams to identify platform capability needs, and working with product teams to ensure growth messaging improves rather than detracts from the end-user experience.
- Shape the platform vision, defining what to build next based on adoption, impact, and what you learn from each phase.
Requirements
- 3+ years in engineering management, with a strong track record of building and shipping application platforms.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience at the application or product tier.
- Experience driving outsized impact from small changes, such as a UI layout change that lifted growth 20%, and energized by enabling such wins at 10x scale.
- Demonstrate strategic insight to optimize impact for both longer and short term.
- Able to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, delivering continuous value while building toward a longer-term platform vision.
- Track record of prioritizing by impact, leveraging existing assets to accelerate, and scaling through platform-level thinking.
- Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, product, design, and data.
Qualifications
- Experience at a product-led growth company during a period of multi-product expansion.
- Experience building platforms that enable non-engineering teams (marketing, design, content) to run experiments or publish content independently.
- Background in personalization systems, recommendation engines, or ML-driven content selection.
- Experience integrating with customer data platforms, marketing automation systems, or building user attribute services from product usage data.
- Familiarity with using AI for quality assurance, brand consistency, or content governance at scale.
- Experience with internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n) infrastructure.
Skills
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Experience with agile methodologies and iterative development.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance-based bonuses, and equity.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings, parental leave, reproductive or family planning support, mental health and wellness programs, generous paid time off, company recharge days, a learning and development stipend, a work-from-home stipend, and cell phone reimbursement.
- Flexible work arrangements, including remote work options.
Pay
The annual base salary range for this role is $258,000—$376,000 USD. The actual compensation will be determined based on factors including individual qualifications, skills, and prior relevant experience, market demands, and specific work location.
Schedule
This role can be held from one of Figma’s US hubs or remotely in the United States.
